When most people think about bio-diversity they inevitably turn to Costa Rica's thousands of plant species. Located between North and South America, Costa Rica boasts over 9,000 identified species of flora. Spread throughout tropical rain forest, cloud forest, and dry seasonal forest the amature botanist (and many professional botanists who visit and work here!) or anybody can observe the bounty of colorful flowers and incredible beauty of the flora. The photos below are a very small sample of this virtual explosion of color and diversity found in the area of Arenal Volcano and Lake Arenal.
