Over 850 species of birds, 200 species of mammals, 35,000 insects, and 150 species of amphibians are catalogued in Costa Rica.
Many of these birds and animals are observed around the Arenal area. Toucans, parrots, hawks, falcons, vultures, many varieties of tanagers, and hummingbirds abound. A real birders paradise is literally right in your back yard! Howler and white-face monkeys roam the jungle, deer are seen occasionally, and many smaller rodent varieties populate the undergrowth. And don't miss the butterflies, spotting a blue morpho is a treat.
